Music for Aardvarks and Other Mammals

35+ classes in Larchmont at Groove each week.
Now in Scarsdale at The Scholastic Store!

Finally, a kids music class that really rocks!

Music for Aardvarks & Other Mammals is a refreshing alternative in the world of kids’ music classes.  We sing, we dance, we jam and we laugh out loud.  But mostly, we rock!    Nobody sits still and nobody goes home grumpy!

Time Magazine has described Music for Aardvarks' original songs and chants as alternately silly, loud and beautiful.  They are informed by styles including Delta blues, hip-hop and thrashing rock'n'roll. There are references to '70s and '80s rock that make the parents smile combined with sitars and bongos, and hints of the Beatles, Bowie and Brazilian pop.  This is a music class that kids and their grown-ups can both enjoy.

Groove's Music for Aardvarks classes come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes.  Each one is led by talented musicians & educators who really know how to play.  In order for families to get the maximum enjoyment out of our classes, we limit the number of children in each class to 12 for Mixed Ages, 10 each for BabyRock and Groovers, and 8 each for BigKid and Super Aardvarks.

Music for Aardvarks and Other Mammals was created in 1997 by Brooklyn dad/punk rocker David Weinstone (a featured performer on NOGGIN's Jack’s Big Music Show). His original music, which reflects and celebrates the lives of children, has captured the imagination and touched the hearts of families across the country.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our class on Wednesday! After doing [another music class] for so long, I can't believe that a program like yours exists -- bravo -- what fun!!! " Anna's mom, Bronxville, NY

GrooveSM Music for Aardvarks classes were named

Best New Kids’ Music Class:
Music for Aardvarks and Other Mammals, Larchmont
"Directed by Lesley Barovick, a classically-trained musician and mom of two young children (she headed up Lincoln Center’s jazz development efforts under Wynton Marsalis in a previous life), the Aardvarks program, featuring original rock, blues, and folk-influenced music and chants, free-form dance breaks, and instrumental jam sessions in a sunny, high-ceiling studio with a punchy purple floor, is a welcome alternative to traditional yawn-inducing alternatives."
